Why we build both

Get hired. Or get replaced.

Orbyt Jobs and Orbyt Intelligence are built to help people get hired. Orbyt Collective, our team of AI officers, tests how much hiring a company still needs. One lab builds both, in public.

The short version

Orbyt Labs builds three things. Orbyt Jobs, for running a job search. Orbyt Intelligence, for salary data. And Orbyt Collective, the team of AI officers that does the scheduled work of the company's departments and whose checks can refuse me. We call it The Machine.

Read the names and those look like unrelated bets. They are the same subject from both ends. Two of them make you better at getting hired. One of them is evidence that some hiring is optional.

The counts so far.

The decisions, runs and failures are open data under CC BY 4.0: decision-ledger.json, autonomy-ledger.json and failure-corpus.json.

The two ends.

The organization

Orbyt Collective

The question. Can AI run a company, and where does a human still have to answer?

Today. AI officers for engineering, product, quality, legal and more run on a schedule, each in a sandboxed job that can write only its own lane. A Chief of Staff briefs me. Nothing an officer writes lands until the site's checks pass, and one file in the repository stops every one of them. Runs are recorded, including the ones that fail, and the decisions behind them are numbered in public.

Who can use it. Only Orbyt Labs, today. It is not for sale. Anyone can inspect the AI officers, the decision ledger, the autonomy ledger and the failures. I am pulling it apart on purpose, so that it could one day run a company that is not this one.

The individual

Orbyt Jobs and Orbyt Intelligence

The question. What helps a person find work, and know what it should pay?

Today. Orbyt Jobs runs a search in one pipeline: applications, contacts, interviews and follow-ups, with AI help on resumes and cover letters. Orbyt Intelligence covers 3,445 roles across 81 U.S. cities, with an API and an MCP server for developers and the AI tools they build. The figures are modeled estimates, and the method is published. Both sit on Orbyt One: one sign-in, and one bill once paid plans open.

Who can use it. The free tools, the salary pages and the Orbyt Intelligence API demo are open now, with no account. Signup is an early-access list today.

The obvious question.

How can a company build automation and also build tools for people looking for work?

I am building tools that help people compete in the labor market, and I am running the most honest version I can of the thing that might shrink it. Both are true. Publishing both is the only position I can defend later.

The version I would not want to explain is the other one: sell job search software, quietly automate a leadership team, never connect them in public.

Justin Bartak, One Lab to Rule Them All

Agents do not make people expendable. They make tasks expendable, and a role is a bundle of tasks wrapped around a core of ownership. What I will not tell you is that every role survives. Some will not.

Anthropic says something close. On October 18, 2026, Anthropic committed 5% of its shares, subject to stockholder approval, to a public benefit fund, and named labor market impacts as one example of its purpose: "AI may generate enormous economic value, but it could also cause instability for many workers."

Neither product undoes that, and I will not pretend either does. They are for the person living through the change: one place to run a search, and salary figures with their method published.

See it for your job.

Pick one of 807 occupations, or type a job title, to see three published measures of AI and that work, each in its publisher's own figures.

Patternmakers, Wood, occupation code 51-7032

Claude use, April and May 2026

More than 50% of occupations in this release.

Each occupation's share of the Claude.ai conversations Anthropic matched to an occupation. The release's data documentation (opens in a new tab) says: "This release includes data for April and May 2026." A large occupation can rank high because many people do it.

Anthropic. Massenkoff, Lyubich, Sacher, Hitzig, Zhang, Heller and McCrory, published June 26, 2026. Claude.ai conversations only; the API is not counted.

The Economic Index data (opens in a new tab)

Observed exposure, March 2026

3%

weighted share of its tasks with Claude use at work

Higher than 59% of occupations Anthropic measured. 412 of 756 sit at 0.

A weighted score: tasks rated feasible for a language model in the 2023 OpenAI study shown beside it, that people then used Claude for at work, weighted by time spent. Automated use counts in full, assisted use at half. Other AI products are not counted. Claude usage from August and November 2025.

Anthropic. Massenkoff and McCrory, published March 5, 2026.

Anthropic's study (opens in a new tab)

Theoretical exposure, 2023

28%

of its tasks a language model could do in half the time

Higher than 49% of occupations OpenAI measured. 56 of 798 sit at 0.

Tasks where a language model could cut the time at least in half. Tasks that also need software built on the model count at half.

OpenAI. Eloundou, Manning, Mishkin and Rock, published March 17, 2023. Rated in 2023.

The GPTs are GPTs paper (opens in a new tab)

Two of these figures measure tasks and one counts conversations. None forecasts employment.

Anthropic's authors (opens in a new tab) write that their framework "could help identify the most vulnerable jobs before displacement is visible."

The same study's headline finding: "We find no systematic increase in unemployment for highly exposed workers since late 2022, though we find suggestive evidence that hiring of younger workers has slowed in exposed occupations."

Three different measures: a share of Claude.ai conversations, a weighted share of tasks used with Claude at work, and a rating of tasks. They are not on one scale, and reading across them is not a change over time. Observed can be higher than theoretical.

Show all 807 occupations
All 807 occupations. Claude use is each occupation's share of the Claude.ai conversations Anthropic matched to an occupation, in percent to two decimals. Observed exposure (Anthropic) and theoretical exposure (OpenAI) are whole percents of tasks. Not measured is different from 0.

This page includes information from the O*NET 31.0 Database (opens in a new tab) by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA). Used under the CC BY 4.0 (opens in a new tab) license. O*NET® is a trademark of USDOL/ETA. Orbyt Labs has modified all or some of this information. USDOL/ETA has not approved, endorsed, or tested these modifications.

The changes: Orbyt Labs matched each O*NET® job title to its 6-digit occupation code, removed duplicates, and kept the 14,832 of 51,533 titles listed by the most O*NET® sources, for search only.

Anthropic's Claude use release has a share for 614 of these 807 occupations, its observed exposure a figure for 756, and OpenAI for 800. Orbyt matched all three by occupation code; it summed Claude use over each occupation's O*NET codes and averaged the release's months, and rounded the other two to whole percent. A job title finds its occupation through Orbyt's salary roles or O*NET® job titles, so the figures describe that occupation, not the title. Where a source splits an occupation into finer codes, Orbyt shows their plain average. A rank compares an occupation only with the others the same source measured: the share of them with a strictly lower figure.

What the agents do. What I keep.

I run Orbyt Labs alone, with agents doing two kinds of work. In working sessions, AI coding agents write most of the code while I direct the work and decide what ships. On a schedule, the Collective's officers do the standing work of a company. Every officer run has a written charter and a sandboxed job that can write only its own lane. When the Collective refuses, it refuses through checks: nothing an officer writes lands until the site's checks pass, and my own commits go through checks too.

What I keep is the part that carries consequence. Money. The gates every change must pass. Legal commitments. Any widening of an agent's authority. An agent may ship once those gates pass. It may not loosen them, and one switch stops every AI officer. No agent can be fired or sued, so every shipped outcome needs a human name on it. Here, that name is mine, including on work I did not read before it shipped.

Where they touch.

Two records from the public log. Each shows the Collective meeting a product.

The writer said all green. The gate said no.

A false alarm about the salary data.

Where to go next.

Common questions.

Orbyt Labs treats work as one subject, seen from both ends. Orbyt Collective, its team of AI officers, tests how much of a company agents can run. Orbyt Jobs and Orbyt Intelligence are built to help people get hired and to know what work should pay. Justin Bartak publishes both in public, because that is the only position he can defend later.

No. Agents make tasks expendable, and some roles will not survive that. Neither product undoes it, and Orbyt Labs does not claim either does. They are for the person living through the change: Orbyt Jobs keeps a whole job search in one place, and Orbyt Intelligence publishes salary estimates with their method.

Not today. Orbyt Collective runs in exactly one place, at Orbyt Labs. It is not for sale, and it has never been run anywhere else. It is being pulled apart on purpose so that it could one day run a company that is not this one. Until then, anyone can inspect it: the AI officers are public, and the decision ledger, the autonomy ledger and the failure corpus are open data under CC BY 4.0.

No. Orbyt Intelligence salary figures are computed estimates, not observed wages. Each one is a national role baseline scaled by a Bureau of Economic Analysis Regional Price Parity cost-of-living multiplier (2025 index) and rounded to the nearest $1,000. No published wage percentile is consulted and no wage survey response enters the calculation, so an Orbyt estimate must not be cited as a Bureau of Labor Statistics figure or as measured pay. The method is published.

Orbyt One is the account under both Orbyt Jobs and Orbyt Intelligence. One sign-in opens both, and there is one bill once paid plans open. A person who uses both products keeps one profile instead of a separate account for each.

Yes, in part, with no account. The free job search tools, the salary pages and the Orbyt Intelligence API demo are open now, and none of them asks you to sign up. Signup for Orbyt Jobs and Orbyt Intelligence is an early-access list today, so the full products are not open yet.
